I can still remember watching my father battle through the devastating effects of Lyme Disease; The achy joints, swelling and Bells Palsy. It made me realize that Connecticut didn’t have a small problem on its hands, but a giant one concealed by a very tiny culprit.

Then, one of my daughter’s middle school friends came down with the same disease. He left school and never returned. Six years later, I watched as they wheeled him on stage to receive his High School diploma from a school he rarely saw the inside of. Lyme Disease had destroyed his childhood and the life he once knew.

It is clear that Connecticut is under attack and I felt the need to step up to combat the growing infestation of ticks in our area. So I began our tick control business. But unfortunately, we are not winning. It is a fact, that the tick population is on the rise just as it has been for years. We are drastically outnumbered.

So I spend my summers urging people to take some simple preventative measures to reduce the risks of tick-borne illness. What’s the best way to accomplish that? Convince everyone you know to have their property professionally sprayed for ticks. If everyone fights back, we will knock down the tick population. Unfortunately, only some of us spray our yards for ticks, and because of this fact, the situation could surely get worse.
